Vers seeks work that misbehaves across forms, genres, and styles. We accept writing and artwork from any discipline—and can even discipline your work for you if it’s been acting up! VERS seeks writing and art that is: devotional, risky, curious, melodramatic, passive aggressive, emo, horny on main, but in a sex negative way experimental,  collaborative, in/appropriate.

We are currently seeking submissions by solicitation only. Check back soon for our open call!

Some loose guidelines:

  • For poetry, please send no more than 5 poems; with fiction, non-fiction, and hybrid work please limit the submission to 2,000 words.

  • We only publish previously unpublished work.

  • Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please mention it in your email :) If your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know.

  • Please include an artist/writer bio in the third person and a brief introduction to your work.

  • Send work as a .doc or .pdf

  • We try to reply to all submissions within a month.

By submitting you agree to grant Vers first serial/electronic rights (as well as electronic archival rights in perpetuity). You also agree that if the work is published subsequently (online or in print), Vers will be credited.

We can’t offer payment at this time to contributors, however, we nominate for most major prizes (Pushcart, Best of the Net, Best American, etc.) and continue to promote contributors after publication.
